The Inca civilization began in the late 1400s and lasted about a century. The Incas ruled the western part of South America and flourished with great architecture and mysterious achievements. Pachacuti was the first emperor of the civilization. He ruled for 10 years and established a system. Since the empire spanned through so much land he decided to place leaders in each part of the empire. If the people of a region were disloyal then he would put in a loyal leader to keep the region from staging a revolt. This tended to work until another emperor, Huayna Capac, died and left the Inca Empire in civil war for power. Eventually Atahualpa took power and became the emperor just to be overtaken by the Spanish. After the Spanish conquered the empire, there were short bursts of revolts by the Incas, but they never worked.
The Inca Empire fell but it is still remembered today as a once bright civilization. The old culture of the empire defines, guides and gives outlines for the South American culture today. Many aspects of their lives originated from the ancient culture. When we learn about the Incas we get to understand them better which then in return also helps us see the people today that live in that area better. We still marvel at their unique roads, buildings, art, and society. The Inca made up a lot of ancient South America and was a big influence on the world then and now.
